Terms of use

Short, and in plain words. These are the terms you accept by using the app. Nothing here mentions payments, subscriptions or refunds, because the app has none of them.

MiExpenses is an Android app for keeping track of what a vehicle costs. It is free to install and free to use, there is nothing to buy inside it and no subscription, and it is written and run by one person, Alexander Volkov, rather than by a company.

By creating an account and using the app you accept these terms and the privacy policy. If you do not accept them, do not use the app. You can stop at any time by uninstalling it, and you can ask for the account itself to be removed as the privacy policy describes.

The app needs an account, and an account is one email address. You are responsible for what is done through your account and for keeping access to the address it is registered under: that address is how we recognise you, including when you ask for your data or for its deletion.

  • One account per email address. The app has no account switcher, and two accounts cannot be used side by side on one phone.
  • The demo login, DEMO@DEMO, is not a personal sandbox. It is one shared account on the server, so everyone who signs in with it sees and edits the same data. Do not put anything real into the demo account, and do not expect what you put there to stay, or to stay private.
  • When you share a vehicle, the person you invite gets access at the level you picked. Picking the level, and picking the person, is your decision.

The app and its server are provided as they are. There is no promise that the service will be available, that a sync will go through, or that a feature will behave the same way after the next release. Much of the app needs a connection to our server, and while the server is down those parts do not work.

It is a record-keeping tool, not accounting software, and nothing it shows is accounting, tax, legal or financial advice. Every figure it produces is arithmetic over what was entered: consumption between full tanks, cost per kilometre and the comparison with last year are exactly as good as the odometer readings and amounts you typed, and no better. Check them before you rely on them for anything that matters.

What you enter stays yours. We store it to run the service; what is stored, where it goes, and how to get a copy or have it deleted is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

You are responsible for what you type into free-text fields and for having the right to type it. A comment field is stored on the server, lands in your CSV export, and is visible to anyone the vehicle is shared with. If you record another person's details, or invite them to a shared vehicle, that is on you to be entitled to do.

The app shows advertising: one full-screen rewarded video, played before the world statistics list opens, for accounts without the paid flag. It is served by Google's advertising SDK under Google's terms rather than ours, and there is nothing you can buy inside the app that would take it away.

A short list, and an unsurprising one.

  • Do not try to reach another person's account or data, and do not use the server for anything other than running the app.
  • Do not scrape the service automatically or point generated traffic at it.
  • Do not reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app, except as far as the law where you live gives you that right whatever these terms say.
  • Do not use the app to store unlawful content, and do not use a shared vehicle to harass the person you share it with.

The service can change. Features can be added, altered or withdrawn, and the whole thing may one day be discontinued: this is one person's project, and that is the honest position. If it is ever shut down, notice will go on this website as far ahead as circumstances allow, and an export will be the way to keep what you recorded.

The app is distributed through Google Play. Installation, updates and anything you pay Google are governed by Google's terms rather than these, and Google can make the app unavailable on a device or in a country independently of us.

So far as the law allows, the app is provided without warranty, and the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it or from being unable to use it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if a court finds one sentence of this section unenforceable, the rest still stands.

One part is better said plainly than buried in that sentence: your data is not guaranteed against loss. There is no import path. The app can export a vehicle to CSV or to a PDF report, but nothing can be loaded back in, and monthly limits and expense templates live only on your phone. If the record matters to you, export it now and then and keep the file somewhere of your own. That export is your safeguard, not ours.
