FAQ
Answers before you install
Money, accounts, offline use, and what happens to your records when you change phone. Where the honest answer is no, it says no.
Twelve questions, answered straight
Is the app free?
Yes, and there is nothing to buy inside it: no subscription, no paid tier, no billing code in the build at all. One ad exists, a full-screen video that plays before the Global statistics list opens. Nothing else in the app is gated behind it.
Do I need an account?
Yes, and there is no way around it: the app signs you in before it shows anything. Your records live on the server under that account, which is what brings them back on a new phone and what makes it possible to share a vehicle with someone else.
Does it work without a connection?
Partly. You can add a new expense with no network: it waits on the phone and is sent the next time the app opens online. Monthly limits and expense templates work offline too, because they live on the phone and are never sent anywhere. Everything else, including editing a record you already saved, adding a vehicle or a reminder, and signing in, answers with the app's own line: Not available in offline mode.
Where is my data kept?
On a server run by the developer, reached over HTTPS. Google Drive, Dropbox and other cloud storage are not part of the chain. What is stored there, and who else can see it, is set out in the privacy policy.
What happens when I change phone?
Install the app, sign in with the same account, and vehicles, expenses, categories, reminders and sharing are downloaded again. Two things do not come back: monthly limits (Budget in the menu) and expense templates are kept on the phone and never go to the server. Export a CSV from the old phone if you want a copy of them.
Can I back up to a file and restore it later?
No. You can export one vehicle to CSV or PDF and hand the file to another app, but there is no import of any kind, not a CSV, not a database file. Restore deleted vehicle in the vehicle list undeletes a vehicle you removed; it does not read a file.
Can two people track one car?
Yes. Share the vehicle with another registered account by email at one of three levels: View, Edit or Move ownership. From the moment the invitation is sent the server counts that account as having access, and the vehicle shows up in their app once they accept.
How is fuel consumption calculated?
From two full fill-ups of the same fuel: the distance between their odometer readings against everything that went into the tank after the earlier full one. Until a vehicle has two such fill-ups the figure is a dash, not a zero. Electric charges always count as full, partial fills are used only if you switch that on in Settings, and a vehicle running on two fuels gets a separate figure for each.
Which Android versions does it run on?
Android 7.0 and newer, installed from Google Play. There is no home-screen widget.
Is there an iPhone version?
No. MiExpenses is an Android app, and there is no iPhone version today.
How do I delete my account and my data?
By email. The app has no delete-account screen, so write from the address you sign in with to [email protected] and say what you want removed: one vehicle, the records, or the account. What is held and how a request is handled is described in the privacy policy.
What does the app collect about me?
The email address you sign in with, your vehicles and expense records, and a push token so reminders can arrive. On start-up it also asks a third-party service for your country by IP address, and the Google ad SDK loads on every launch; there is no crash-reporting SDK, and there is no location, camera or microphone permission in the app — though GET_ACCOUNTS, which Play lists under Contacts, is declared and never used. The full list is in the privacy policy.
Question not on the list?
The support page has the address to write to, what to put in a bug report so it can be reproduced, and the four things that go wrong most often.
